Listening to a man have a lover's spat with the woman who is not his lawfully wedded wife is just... heartbreaking.
Everything about it is depressing. It was so sincere. There was clear and obvious feeling - attachment, hurt, love - in the couple minutes I overheard. It's sad to hear someone so established in his life going through that kind of issue... still. It's sad that such clear and obvious feeling is towards someone who doesn't, or can't, have a significant role in his life. It's sad that there isn't such clear and obvious feeling towards the woman who "should" be receiving it. It's just sad that people live their lives this way and are unable or unwilling to break free from it.
Obviously my own experiences in life have made me a bit more sensitive to this issue, but it's something I've witnessed a million times before and never agreed with. Why do people lie to themselves? Why do people feel the need to lie to everyone else? They can't do what truly makes them happy, so they just go along with what they're "supposed" to do to keep the peace. But in the end, who's getting what they want? Who's actually benefiting? Why do we value appearance and societal norms above our true desires?
I just feel people could gain a lot from being honest about what they do and what they want. Everyone is so afraid of immediate negative consequences, they won't look down the line to see how the long-term negative consequences will affect them. Heartbreaking.
